How to reduce no-shows in your salon: 7 tactics that actually work

· 6 Min. Lesezeit

A single no-show costs you the treatment price plus the client you turned away for that slot. For a busy nail tech that is easily £200+ a week. The good news: most no-shows are preventable with process, not luck.

1. Send a reminder at the right moment

The sweet spot is 24 hours before the visit — early enough to rebook the slot if the client cancels, late enough that they won't forget again. Automate it; manual reminding is the first thing that slips on a busy day. See how Slotora's reminders work

2. Make cancelling easy (yes, really)

A client who can cancel in one tap cancels early. A client who has to phone you cancels never — they just don't come. So keep the self-service link in every confirmation email open right up to the start time: a late cancellation is priced, not blocked. A freed slot beats an empty chair.

3. Set a visible cancellation policy

State it at booking: 'free cancellation up to 24 hours before'. Clients respect rules they saw when they booked, and you gain the moral high ground for repeat offenders.

4. Track no-shows per client

You cannot manage what you don't measure. Your booking system should count no-shows on every client profile, so the pattern is visible before it becomes a habit.

5. Use a block list for repeat offenders

Two strikes is a policy, three is a pattern. Blocking online booking for serial no-shows protects your calendar without confrontation — they can still call.

6. Fill freed slots with a waitlist

A cancellation only costs money if the slot stays empty. An automatic waitlist emails waiting clients the second a slot frees up — often the gap is filled within the hour.

7. Take deposits for high-value treatments

For long or expensive appointments (colour corrections, full sets, tattoo sessions), a small deposit changes the psychology completely. Slotora takes it by card when the client books, through your own Stripe account — a percentage, a fixed amount or the full price. Deposits and no-show fees

Slotora covers all seven out of the box — reminders, self-service cancellation, policies, no-show tracking, the block list, the waitlist and card deposits through your own Stripe account. Slotora charges nothing for any of them; Stripe's standard card fee applies to deposits.

Dürfen wir messen, welche Seiten wirklich helfen? „Alle akzeptieren“ erlaubt auch die Messung unserer eigenen Anzeigen.

Was heißt das genau?

Alles, was der Dienst selbst braucht, funktioniert ohnehin. Cookie-Richtlinie
