Payments at the counter

Take the money before they walk out

Every booking shows exactly what is still owed. Press Take payment and Slotora puts a QR code on the screen — the guest scans it with their own phone and pays by Apple Pay, Google Pay or card. Cash and your own card machine are recorded in the same place, so the day adds up. The money lands in your own Stripe account, and Slotora takes 0% of it.

A QR code, if you'd rather not buy hardware

Slotora creates a Stripe Checkout link for the outstanding balance and shows it as a QR code big enough to scan across a counter. The guest pays on their own phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. Nothing to buy, nothing to charge overnight.

Keep the card machine you already have

Cash, your own card terminal and bank transfer are all recorded against the booking, so the day's takings are complete however the guest paid — not only the ones that went through us.

One figure left to collect

Deposit paid online, gift card part-used, coupon applied, session pass covering the visit — Slotora does the arithmetic and shows a single balance on the booking. Nobody works it out at the desk.

Tips, kept out of your service revenue

Add a tip with a 10%, 15% or 20% tap, or type any amount. It is recorded with the payment but reported separately, so it never inflates what your services actually earned.

The guest gets a receipt

An itemised receipt is emailed the moment the payment lands: what was paid, how it was paid, and what is left on the booking if anything.

Refunds, corrections and disputes

Refund part of a payment or all of it, record cash handed back as a refund rather than deleting the line, and correct a mistyped amount with the original still visible in the history. If a card payment is disputed, you are told and the booking is flagged.

Close the day and check the drawer

The day-end close lists takings by method and by person, works out what the cash drawer should hold, and shows the difference the moment you type in what you counted. Print it and file it.

Four ways to take a card at the counter

This is the salon POS side of Slotora — the point of sale at your front desk. Which of the four suits you depends on what that desk actually is: a phone, a computer, or neither. All four record the payment against the booking, and Slotora takes 0% of every one of them.

A phone or tablet, with a SumUp or Square reader

Open the booking in the Slotora app and press Take payment. Slotora hands the amount to the SumUp or Square app on that same device, the guest taps their card there, and the result comes straight back and is recorded against the booking. You never retype the amount.

Who it is for
A front desk that is a phone or a tablet — and the self-employed stylist who takes her own money on her own reader.
What you need
The vendor's app — SumUp, or Square Point of Sale — installed on the very same device as the Slotora app, signed into your own merchant account, with your reader paired to it. This is two apps handing over to each other on one handset, so it does not work from a desktop computer: if your front desk is a PC, use a Stripe Terminal reader or the QR code below. The charge goes to whichever merchant account is signed into the vendor's app on that device, which is also how a stylist renting a chair takes money into her own account.
What it costs
SumUp and Square readers cost roughly £19–59 from them. Their own transaction fee applies and it goes to them. Slotora takes 0%.

A computer, with a Stripe Terminal reader

Press Take payment in Slotora and the amount goes to the reader sitting on your counter. The guest taps, and the booking updates. There is no phone in the loop and no switching between apps — Slotora drives the reader from the server.

Who it is for
A salon whose front desk is a desktop or laptop, and anyone who would rather not have the till live on somebody's phone.
What you need
A Stripe Terminal reader, bought from Stripe, and your own Stripe account connected to Slotora.
What it costs
Stripe Terminal readers cost roughly £129–229 from Stripe. Stripe's own processing fee applies and it goes to Stripe. Slotora takes 0%.

A QR code, and no hardware at all

Press Take payment and Slotora works out what is still owed — price, less any deposit already paid, less a gift card or coupon, nothing at all if a session pass covers the visit — then puts a QR code on the screen, big enough to scan across a counter. The guest scans it with their own phone and pays by Apple Pay, Google Pay or card. The booking updates the moment it lands.

Who it is for
Every counter. This is the one that works whatever your front desk is, and it costs nothing to start.
What you need
Your own Stripe account connected to Slotora. No reader, no app on the guest's phone, nothing to buy or charge overnight.
What it costs
No hardware. Stripe's own processing fee applies and it goes to Stripe. Slotora takes 0%.

The card machine you already own

Take the card on your own machine exactly as you do today, then record it against the booking as a card payment. Nothing about the money changes; the point is that the day's takings in Slotora match what actually came in, whichever machine took it.

Who it is for
A salon with a terminal it likes and no reason to replace it — including machines from a bank or a processor Slotora has never heard of.
What you need
Nothing. There is no integration to set up and no compatibility to check — this works with any card machine on earth, because Slotora is not talking to it.
What it costs
Nothing from us. Your machine keeps its own fees and its own payouts, and that money never passes through Slotora.

Slotora charges nothing for any of this — no commission, no per-transaction fee, no hardware sold by us. Whoever processes the card charges their own fee and that fee is theirs, not ours; you see it in their dashboard. Reader prices are the vendors' own, quoted approximately, and can change.

May we measure which pages actually help? “Accept all” also lets us measure our own adverts.

What exactly does this mean?

We'd like to use Google Analytics to see which pages help and which don't, and to remember which poster or flyer brought you here. Accept all also allows a Meta advertising pixel, so we can tell which of our own adverts brought a salon that signed up — and if you create an account, your name and email address go to Meta scrambled (hashed), never as readable text, purely so it can recognise that the sign-up came from an advert. None of this runs on a salon's own booking page. Everything the service itself needs works either way. Cookie Policy
