Tap to Pay for salon teams: every stylist's phone is a card reader
In a salon with one card terminal at the desk, every payment is a small queue: the guest walks to the front, the stylist follows to make sure the right service is charged, the next guest waits in the chair. Tap to Pay turns that around. The stylist's own phone is the card reader — the guest taps her card or her phone against it, at the chair, and the visit is paid.
What Tap to Pay is
Tap to Pay is a contactless card payment taken on an ordinary smartphone, with no separate terminal. The phone's own NFC chip reads the card or the guest's phone wallet. In Slotora it runs through Stripe, on the salon's own Stripe account.
Where it works today
- In the Slotora app on Android phones, app version 1.0.42 or newer.
- For salons in every Slotora market except Germany and Austria, where Slotora records no money at the counter at all.
- On iPhone it comes with an app update; it is not there today.
To take a payment: open the booking, choose „Take payment”, then „Take … by card on this phone”, and the guest holds her card or phone against yours.
Where the money goes when there is a team
The payment belongs to the booking, so it lands where that booking's money belongs. For most salons that is the salon's Stripe account. If someone on your team works for herself and has connected her own Stripe account, the payment for her guest goes straight to hers instead — Slotora decides that per booking, so a mixed team does not have to think about it at the chair.
Slotora takes 0% of a Tap to Pay payment. Stripe charges its own processing fee on the account that receives the money; we add nothing to it. That is not the same as „free card payments”, and we do not call it that.
Tips
The tip is added on the same payment screen, before the guest taps, so one tap pays the visit and the tip. When two people worked on one guest, the tip can be split between them afterwards — evenly, or by hand — and the reports show who got what. Slotora records the split; it does not move money between colleagues.
What it does not do yet
- It does not work on iPhone until the next app version.
- There is no single checkout that sells a service, a retail product and a gift card in one payment; Tap to Pay takes payment for a booking.
- It needs a phone with NFC and a connected Stripe account — the salon's, or the stylist's own.
