Booksy and Slotora, for Canadian salons

A Booksy alternative for Canada: read the contract, not just the price

Booksy and Slotora both charge a monthly subscription in Canada, and both let clients book you online. Where they differ is in the small print: who you contract with, under which law, how you pay and what happens to a period you have already paid for. Here is what Booksy's own Canadian pages say, with the day we read them.

Same idea, different contract

On the surface the two are alike: a monthly subscription, a booking page, reminders, deposits. Booksy adds a consumer app where clients search for salons; Slotora adds no commission on anything and an app for you, not for your clients.

The bigger difference is the contract. Booksy is an American company, and its Canadian terms send a dispute to arbitration under the law of Illinois. Slotora is a British company whose terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, with no arbitration clause. Neither is Canadian, and you should know which one you are signing.

When Booksy is the better choice

Said in Booksy's favour.

Your clients already find you on Booksy
Booksy has a consumer app where clients search for salons. If a good share of your new clients come from it, that is worth more than a cheaper subscription. Slotora's directory is new in Canada.
You want Booksy's integrations
Booksy's Canadian page lists booking through Google, Facebook and Instagram. With Slotora you share your booking link on those yourself.
You text every client
Slotora includes email reminders and charges for each text from prepaid credit, so a salon that texts every client should count that in.

May we measure which pages actually help? “Accept all” also lets us measure our own adverts.

What exactly does this mean?

We'd like to use Google Analytics to see which pages help and which don't, and to remember which poster, flyer or message of ours — or which salon's recommendation — brought you here. Accept all also allows a Meta advertising pixel, so we can tell which of our own adverts brought a salon that signed up — and if you create an account, our server sends Meta your email address scrambled (hashed), never as readable text, with your IP address, your browser's details and Meta's own cookie ids — never your name — purely so it can recognise that the sign-up came from an advert. None of this runs on a salon's own booking page. Everything the service itself needs works either way. Cookie Policy
